Das besondere an Aikido ist, dass diese Kampfkunst mit einem Partner geübt und nicht gegen einen Gegner gekämpft wird. Dies kommt daher, dass der Gründer von Aikido, Ueshiba Morihei, nach einem Weg suchte, aggressive Energie friedlich abzulenken, mit Liebe und Harmonie die Welt von Gewalt und Krieg zu befreien.

Aikido wird in einem Dojo trainiert.
Aikido trainiert barfuss und trägt einen Gi – eine weisse Jacke und Hose (meistens aus Baumwolle). Alles wird mit einem Grütel zusammengehalten.
Am Anfang und beim Probetraining brauchst du noch kein Gi. Eine bequeme Jogginghose und ein T-Shirt reichen aus.
Je nachdem wie lange man schon Aikido trainiert, und wie viele Prüfungen man bestanden hat, trägt man (bei den Kindern) unterschiedlich farbige Gürtel.
